Nottinghamshire Olympia Bus Trip
The snow and inclement weather in 2010 did not deter Nottinghamshire BHS from making their annual pilgrimage to the Sunday afternoon performance of the Olympia Horse Show in London.
Indeed they were rewarded with a most enjoyable programme of events including the H&M Speed Stakes, Dog Agility Pair Relay, Ukrainian Cossacks, Shetland Pony Grand National, the Musical Ride of the Household Cavalry and of course a very exciting and nail-biting World Cup Qualifier. The finale, War Horse, was spellbinding.
Once again a raffle was held on the coach en-route to Olympia and a festive sing-song on the return journey.
A big thank you is extended to Vinnie of Unity Coaches who safely and expertly managed to get the intrepid trippers to Olympia and back, despite some very challenging road conditions.
Hopefully the trip (without the snow!) will be repeated in 2011.
Val Gant,
Notts BHS

Report from Nottinghamshire Recent Parasite Talk
Zoologist Jackie Loyd Phd presented a fascinating talk about parasites at Brackenhurst on the 24th Feb,
packed with lots of information, and lessor known facts about the things we love to hate.
We all learnt how to control the amount of parasites our horses have, and I am sure that we all rushed home to clean out feed bins to help keep forage mites at bay, and tidy our muck heaps keeping them away from grazing paddocks, to prevent lavae returning to their hosts.
Also to have worm counts taken before and after worming (if needed), so we can target the right worms, and not just keep routinely worming every 8 weeks, without first checking, A,was it was needed, and B,did it do its job, or do you have a resistance problem to that particular wormer, and have just wasted you money!

The BHS Nottinghamshire’s ‘Meet and Greet’
A g reat night with a cross-section of horse owners from across the county gathering for an informal evening of wine, canapés and nibbles at Rolls Royce in Hucknall. Those attending were asked to stick a label onto a wall map showing their name and interests, with the idea of getting like minded people to get together and make new friends. This proved a great success, despite becoming less accurate after a couple of glasses of wine as the evening progressed! |
