We are e-volving!
With the increasing call for us all to be more environmentally conscious and adopt steps to be ‘greener’ we are going to introduce an email form of the BHS Derbyshire newsletter as well as our standard paper form.
Our mailing list at present is 1300 to whom we mail out twice a year. Each newsletter is usually 4 sheets of double-sided photocopy, an A5 envelope and a 2nd class stamp. To tot it up for you – that’s:
- 10400 pieces of paper
- £208 on photocopying fees
- £624 on postage (2nd class postage due to rise to 29p in April 2009, increasing costs to £754)
- £125.94 on C5 envelopes
- Not to mention the man hours of photocopying, collating, folding, stuffing
This cost is shared at present between the BHS and our committee of volunteers, without whom the mailing of the newsletter would not be possible. However it is not just a financial cost, it is also a cost to the environment.
We are therefore sending out a plea for as many members as possible to agree to receive an e-version of the newsletter. The benefits to the British Horse Society Derbyshire would be:
- The opportunity to use the mailing funds on relevant campaigns and projects
- A quicker delivery of your newsletter, one click to your computer, not 2-3 days 2nd class delivery service
- The chance to receive your newsletter in colour, not black and white
- A clear, greener conscience with a smaller carbon footprint!
