Sue Henry - Committee Chairman Northamptonshire

Hi Everyone
I am writing to introduce myself to you as your ‘Chairman’.

Like most of you I juggle fulltime work, family and my passion for horses into each week. I currently own a 15.2h Bay Thoroughbred Gelding with the most apt name: ‘Monkey Boy’ although I cannot take the credit for his name as he is an ex racehorse from Ireland – therefore when he gets excited I have to sing the few ‘Irish Songs’ I know to calm him down. You’re lucky if you’re not around to hear!

I have owned him around 10 years and had him since he was 5 yrs of age.  He and I both love ‘Endurance Riding’ and are lucky enough to have competed on behalf of the I.C.E.N.I. team in 2005 in a 65km race and individually and team wise won – what a result and what a great feeling to be part of a ‘Team’.  We compete and enter training rides all over the Country – family commitments allowing – and I can thoroughly recommend this to others both young and old its great fun.  Like all of you I am busy with the various pressures that life throws at us, but I find my involvement with horses ‘relaxes me’ even if its short-lived when the next little challenge bowls round the corner!

I have only just had the title of Chairman bestowed upon me (April 2007), as up until recently I was the ‘Chairman of Vice’.  Sheila Smith was the Chairman and has done an absolutely super job over the years together with the help of her very supportive committee members.  I am sure you would all like to join in with me in thanking not only her, for all her hard work, but also the Committee who put so much time and energy into organising all the ‘Fun Events’ that we all enjoy so much.  Sheila is still involved with the Committee as our ‘News Letter Editor’.

Whilst writing my editorial, I am wondering if there is any more BHS member’s out-there – age is not a consideration - who would also enjoy helping out with some of the events for this year.  It is most rewarding and as the old saying goes ‘ Many Hands Make Light Work’. Its great to take part in the events but it is also fun to see others enjoying themselves following your own small effort as part of one great Team.  Perhaps we ought to change the name from Committee to Team.

If you feel you want to contribute in anyway however small to one or more of the events and would like more information please contact Ruth Court 07771 861188 or myself on 07971231119

Finally, looking forward to meeting you all, working with you and enjoying the various events listed in our latest News Letter

All the best – Sue Henry
